Rocksbox Review: December 2016

Happy New Year Loves! Hopefully everyone had a great NYE weekend. It’s the beginning of the month…You know what that means? It’s time for a Rocksbox review! With this set, I was sent two items on my wish list and one that was randomly chosen. My stylist for this set was Jessica, and she hooked me up!

Diasehs Rocksbox Review Header

But before I get into all the glamorous details…

Rocksbox is a jewelry service that presents its members with a subscription box every month for a flat rate. The pieces are all designer brands, and come in an array of styles. If  this is your first time hearing about this company or want even more details…

Check out my first Rocksbox review!

Let us continue…

Rocksbox Stylist Memo

Being the December baby that I am…I was hoping that I would just love this set so that three things could happen…

1 | I could wear them for my birthday festivities

2 | Keep them as a wonderful gift to myself

3 | Give you guys an AWESOME review!

Needless to say all of these things happened! I will be keeping two of the three items. Why not all three? I’ll let you know in just a bit…Keep reading.

Compare & Contrast

When looking at the pictures, I noticed something that isn’t shown clearly. This is not a bad thing for me, but it could be for someone else. The necklace is a vintage gold color, while the ring and earrings are a bright yellow gold. They compliment each other, but they are not the exact same shade.

BONUS: I HAVE A GIFT FOR YOU SO KEEP READING! IF YOU FOLLOW ME ON INSTAGRAM & TWITTER… YOU ALREADY KNOW WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT.

When I opened the box, the first piece I pulled out was my Olivia & Grace Hexagon Pave RingFrom the photo on the site, you can not tell the size of the actual ring. It could be a huge cocktail ring, or it could be a dainty little ring. The ring is medium in size, and the pave detailing around the stone make this piece look so elegant. I would feel comfortable wearing this ring whether I am dressed up or down.

Diasehs Olivia & Grace Ring

The color of this ring is in Moonstone, but it also comes in another color that can be seen here!

The retail price for this ring is $115 USD

The Rocksbox Shine Insiders’ price is $81 USD

The last time I received a Perry Street necklace was in my first Rocksbox set, and I immediately fell in love with the brand. They have yet to disappoint me. The Perry Street piece I received in this set is the Faye Statement Necklace . This necklace is tastefully crafted, and not too bulky. I like that! With the colors that were used, the piece needed some simplicity in the style. As my stylist Jessica mentioned above…The color combination is beautiful. However, it’s the topaz that brings everything together. That’s what sold me on this piece.

Diasehs Perry Street Faye NecklacePerry Street Faye Necklace

The retail price for this necklace is $59 USD

The Rocksbox Shine Insiders’ price is $50 USD

I’m keeping this necklace! It’s mine…no questions asked. They have more of them I promise.

The last piece in my set is by Anita K. The Sweet Little Something Stud Set is a tiny treasure. Why do I say this? They are perfect for a few different things…

1 | If you don’t want to wear large stone or statement earrings

2 | If you have a second or third ear piercing and need some complimentary studs

3 | If you have on a large statement necklace and need some simple earrings

 Anita K Earrings

But…but…but…I will not be buying them. Why you ask? It’s not because I don’t like them…I lose studs like the average girl looses bobby pins! I know deep within my spirit that if I kept these earrings that I would only be able to locate one set of the three in about a month.

The retail price for this set is $63 USD

The Rocksbox Shine Insiders’ price is $53 USD

Review | Smashbox Studio Skin Foundation

Diasehs Smashbox Studio Skin

Ladies, Gentlemen & Unicorns…I have stumbled upon another amazing product!

The Backstory | As a WOC (Woman of Color), I struggle with finding the correct shade of foundation. It has nothing to do with my color matching skills or the product price point. I have an orange/warm undertone. That leaves me with a dilemma most of the time. It is generally one of two things…My skin will look like I have on funeral home makeup, or I will look three shades darker for no reason. Nothing against having a tan but I need my face and neck to match so that I don’t look like a cakepop! I have been playing around with this new foundation for a month or so just to make sure I really like it…This one is A1!

THE REVIEWS ON DIASEHS.COM ARE MY PERSONAL OPINIONS, AND NOT THOSE OF ANY ADVERTISER, COMPANY, AFFILIATE OR GROUP. IF THESE PRODUCTS PRESENTED WORK FOR ME, THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT THEY WILL 100% WORK FOR YOU. PLEASE READ ALL INGREDIENTS IN PRODUCTS BEFORE USE. THAT IS NOT JUST REGARDING THIS POST, BUT FOR ANY PRODUCT THAT YOU PUT IN OR ON YOUR FACE AND BODY. THANK YOU!

The Product | I PURCHASED this foundation from my local Ulta for $42.00 USD (excluding tax). I know some of you are saying…$42…I’m not spending that much on foundation blah, blah…etc. It is WORTH IT! I chose the shade 4.05, and that was an exact match for me.

Smashbox Studio Skin Shades

This product is available in 22 shades and has a very thin consistency. At first I was a bit thrown off. When you initially apply this product… it looks very dewy. After that, it settles into a natural/matte finish. Work quickly because it settles fast! This foundation passed the Beauty Blender Test! Most thin foundations get soaked into your beauty blender (Wet or Not). This one blended evenly and kept a nice finish all day. I don’t find myself looking oily throughout the day or worrying about looking like I just went for a run.

PS: You can layer this product for a medium to full coverage look. Let the previous layer settle before adding another one to prevent creasing.

The Rating |  ⋆ ⋆ ⋆ ⋆

Reason? Color, Finish, Longevity, Packaging & Cruelty Free!

I can’t give it 5 stars because no product is PERFECT, but for my skin…it’s pretty close!

Bonus | First time shopping on the Smashbox official site? Use this code ‘SBX15A’ for 15% off of your first order! This offer expires January 1, 2017.

Artist Spotlight: Masu McLemore

Love for your craft is one thing, but the level of dedication adds an entirely new meaning to the word…arrist-titleMasu, you are a self-taught artist with beautiful visions, and you have a lot to show for it.  Was there inspiration for you to start painting such as family or another artist…or was it just a hobby that grew into a passion?
My father is an artist, my grandma is an artist, my grandfather is a movie director and the list continues. I was born into a family of artists in many different forms, and I just happened to choose the fine art path.
I originally wanted to be a singer/songwriter, and I’d draw to relieve stress. I ended up getting really good at drawing and enjoyed it more so I stopped writing, but I’m also a great writer. It’s a hidden talent that I only really share with loved ones.

What was the most difficult thing for you starting out as an artist?
Finding my style was the most difficult thing for me. It’s hard trying to put all your thoughts onto paper and/or a canvas.

I have noticed that a lot of your pieces have a musical aspect to them. Why these specific artists, and which piece is your favorite thus far?
I pick artists based off of what I like and not what everyone else likes. I don’t really listen to many of today’s new artists because their music lacks substance to me. So I pick artists that have moved me in some way and have gotten me out of a funk at some point in my life. My favorite piece is my To Pimp a Butterfly painting (Shown bottom right) Blavity  officially has it in their art gallery, but I hold it near and dear to my heart.
It’s also the first painting where I introduced my signature monarch butterfly.

You attended Otis College of Art and Design and the School of Visual Arts. What made you choose a different route, and do you think that this change was for the better?
I left Otis specifically because I was no longer happy there, and I was no longer happy in LA. Going to SVA gave me a lot of clarity, and it actually pushed me to work harder. It was a difficult time, but it did in fact change me into the artist I am today.
masu quote.jpg

How do you feel about everything that is going on in the world today? You have a Black Lives Matter inspired painting that I love. Tell me about it.
Black Lives Matter Painting ArtbySu
All the violence going on isn’t something I really like to speak on. Gun violence has taken away a lot of my family members and friends so I decided to let my art speak for itself. It really just symbolizes pain and hurt. The butterfly is something precious and delicate and a gun is exactly what it is a weapon of mass destruction. In this piece the butterfly is me that’s why the piece is called When You Murdered Them, a Part of Me DIED Too.  Every black and brown person killed I feel the pain, I feel the hurt, like them I feel.

ink title.jpg
You have a full sleeve that includes part of an Audrey Kawasaki painting, Forever Still. It’s beautiful! What inspired this?
I have multiple tattoos, which is a bit crazy to me at times. My sleeve is inspired by my life, it represents me specifically. All of my ink has to do with something that happened in my life. I love flowers, sunflowers and roses specifically; elephants are my favorite animal and I respect Buddhism and their worship towards Ganesha, and Audrey Kawasaki is one of my favorite artists. All that tied with henna like designs is how my sleeve came about. I also have a hummingbird on my neck, writing on my right wrist, a rose on my right hand, a Michelangelo quote and piece on my right forearm, roses on my right wrist, and angel wings on the back of my neck which all symbolize something, but I’d be talking forever if I explained each one.

creative mind.jpgDescribe your dream art studio…
My dream art studio consists of floor to ceiling windows, all white, wooden floors, and high ceilings. I want nothing but greenery on the outside, something like my own forest that I can stare at as I paint and the breeze hits my face. I want to be able to watch the bees, the butterflies, and the birds sing. I want a white crocheted hammock where I can rest and read on my down time and an upstairs loft where my bed and other essentials will be. Lots of crystals, dream catchers, and candles will surround my space keeping all the negative energy away from me and my art. Also, no shoes will be worn in my space. No outsiders will be allowed in my space unless something special is taking place. It’ll be like my secret sanctuary.

What is your next move? Any current/upcoming projects that you can speak on?
I have a lot of moves that I can’t speak of currently, but I can say look out for a solo art show coming this December.

masu pink.jpg
Masu, you are an amazing artist with such a beautiful spirit. Thank you for taking the time to share pieces of your journey. Congratulations on all your accomplishments, and best wishes on all your future projects!

Review | Younique Products

Younique Products

I think every woman who wears makeup goes through that periodic search for their new staple product. Majority of the time it is a foundation, primer or mascara. If you are not willing to admit to this…that’s fine, because I will. I am GUILTY, and I’m perfectly ok with that.

Let me give you a small breakdown of my personal makeup struggles when it comes to finding a good staple product:

  1. I have tiny lashes! Both my parents have beautiful, thick, long eyelashes. Somewhere down the line…someone messed up the cycle. That’s fine because I have found a way around this. Thank you for lengthening mascaras!
  2. I have an orange undertone. Now this is not really a struggle until it comes to foundation. I love the color of my skin! However, many makeup companies leave women of color with my same undertone in the dark. Majority of the foundations that I come across that claim to be a “warm” shade are the right color in the bottle, but are either too dark when dry or make me look washed out. Due to this, I have become a Mixologist!
  3. I have combination skin, and this is common for many women. My nose, forehead and chin (T-zone) are more shine prone throughout the day than the rest of my face. I have to find products for my face that balance everything out. Oil-free on the label does not always cut it.

Now that I am off of my soap box…Let’s get down to business shall we?

I was contacted by a Younique Products Presenter by the name of Jennifer Rougeux, and was asked to review some products for you all!

Thank you!

Foundation_Final.jpg

Younique’s Touch Mineral Foundation in Cypress – $39.00 USD

Younique’s Liquid Foundation Brush – $32.00 USD

When I originally opened the product package I was surprised. Not only by the construction of the bottle, but because Jennifer chose my correct foundation shade based on pictures alone (That doesn’t happen often). The top to the bottle is a long dropper.

PLEASE SHAKE/PALM ROLL THIS BOTTLE AND SQUEEZE THE DROPPER BEFORE USING IT!

The product will be extremely watery if you don’t…We don’t want that. The texture of the foundation after this is very light weight, and goes on smoothly. Despite the thin consistency, this product is buildable, and afterwards you won’t have a thick cake face. For those who love the “No Makeup-Makeup” look this is perfect, and is buildable for those who want that extra glam.

For the finer applications, the Younique Liquid Foundation Brush is perfect. The bristles are extremely soft and glide around corners easily. When I want more of a full coverage I use this brush first just to get the product right where I want it, then play double dutch with my  Real Techniques Expert Face Brush. For heavier applications, the Younique brush slid around a bit too much for my liking, but that’s just me.

Shine test approved! I am Event Coordinator, and there are times when I am working for 17 hours straight…I put this foundation to the test, and I had a fresh face all day!

Concealer1

Younique’s Touch Mineral Concealer in Cypress – $29.00 USD

This concealer is FULL COVERAGE & WATERPROOF. I was a bit skeptical at first, due to the tube being so tiny, but it does the trick. To put this product to the test, I covered half of my wrist tattoo with it. Those of you with ink know it takes a lot to cover a black ink tattoo!

| Full Coverage Test |

One layer of concealer was applied directly to the tattoo. No primer. No orange corrector. This was less than a dime size circle of product! I applied this product with my Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge in a dabbing motion.

| Waterproof Test |

Using the same application from the previous test, I let warm water run over the product for 2 minutes consistently. This concealer did not budge at all. I am sticking with this one for sure!

Primer1.jpg

Younique’s Glorious Face & Eye Primer – $39.00 USD

This is hands down my new favorite primer! I am a big fan of clear gel primers. They glide on with ease, and help your makeup go on so smoothly. A little bit of this product goes a long way. Do not cake it on or your face. If you do, your face will end up feeling slick, and your makeup will not stay where you want it to. Just a little bit does the trick!

Now I will say this, if you plan on using a cream based shadow…do not use this on your lids. The product will not adhere to your lid properly. For pressed shadows it is perfect, and it helps the shadow show in its truest color.

Eyeshadow.jpg

Younique’s Splurge Cream Eyeshadow in Splurge – $26.00 USD

I wasn’t exactly sure how I felt about this shadow at first. This shadow is in a spongy cream form. I wouldn’t exactly call it a shadow…it’s more like a lid “highlight” or “shimmer”.  I used this color by itself and it came out like a light cream shade and glitter. I tried using it on top of one of my pressed shadows and fell in love with it. It made the color pop! You can also use this product on the inner corner of your eyes. It catches the light very well. If you are doing a bronze/beachy look, then this is your go to!

Bonus: Here is a makeup look I did using this shadow! Eyeshadow_Younique

All Products: Vegas Nay’s Grand Glamour Lashes by Eylure, Buttery by Anastasia Beverly Hills (Self Made Palette) as a base, Puree by Too Faced (Sweet Peach Palette) as a transition color, Summer Yum by Too Faced (Sweet Peach Palette) as an outer corner transition color, Metallic Plum by Anastasia Beverly Hills (Self Made Palette) as a crease color, Treasure by Anastasia Beverly Hills (Self Made Palette) on the lid, Elegant by Younique on top of TreasureIsla by Anastasia Beverly Hills (Self Made Palette) on the lower lash line smoked out with Blue Velvet by Anastasia Beverly Hills (Artist Palette), Expresso Micro Brow Pencil by NYX and Carbon Black Better Than Sex Mascara by Too Faced on lower lashes.

Lipgloss

Younique’s Stiff Upper Lip Stain in Saucy– $22.00 USD

Story time! When I was a little girl, my mother used to let me play in her makeup, and I loved her red lipstick. Of course being a kid, I was not allowed to wear makeup. I found a sweet alternative in red popsicles. I loved the tint that it left on my lips, and that was my “makeup” for the few hours that it lasted. So I have always been a fan of red lip tints. They are sultry, but subtle enough for any occasion. I love this lip stain because it does not dry my lips out, and that seems to be a big problem with most tints. The product is thin, but it’s not runny. It literally looks like ink…and it should!

Mascara.jpg

Younique’s Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lashes+ – $29.00 USD

This mascara comes in two parts. The longer tube is the Transplanting Gel, and the shorter tube contains the Natural Fibers. The goal is to achieve long, natural looking lashes, and this gets the job done. However, there is a trick to it. The product directions say to coat your lashes with the gel then apply the fibers while the gel is still wet. After this, go back over the fibers with the gel to seal them in. You can repeat these steps until you have reached the look that you are going for. I do things a bit differently. I apply one coat of a regular lengthening mascara (Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara) FIRST, and then I use this mascara. The results are magical!

The first image is with no mascara, the second is with one coat of the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara and the last is with 2 coats of the Younique Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lashes+.

The Interview | Alex Undone

Art is an expression…A showcase of creative skill & imagination. Visual seduction to be appreciated for its beauty. Bringing emotion to the surface and leaving you with a lasting impression. A textured foundation with a beautiful silhouette…manifesting in her dreams.
I introduce to you Alexandra Cunningham.
A model…An artist.

I came across Alex in the YouTube video “PROMBOYISH: The Ultimate Tomboy Prom Lookbook” on Ari Fitz’s TOMBOYISH channel.

My initial thoughts were…Wow, she is GORGEOUS! Who is this woman?  Her look is really different…What’s her story? So, after a little digging and sending of emails …

The Interview

Alex_MountainTop.jpg

Alex_Title

Where are you from, and what is your current city?
GERMANY RAISED ME… L.A. CHANGED ME.

How was your experience growing up in Germany?
I WOULDN’T CHANGE IT FOR THE WORLD. GERMANY IS AND WILL ALWAYS BE HOME. GROWING UP AS A MILITARY BRAT OVERSEAS TAUGHT ME TO APPRECIATE OTHER CULTURES AND OUR DIFFERENCES IN SOCIETY.

You most definitely bridge the gap between women’s fashion and menswear. Did you anticipate this when you first got into the industry, or did it catch you by surprise?
I KNEW MY LOOK WAS DIFFERENT FROM MOST GIRLS, BUT I DIDN’T KNOW THERE WAS A WORD FOR IT. I WAS FIRST INTRODUCED TO THE TERM “ANDROGYNY” A FEW YEARS AGO.  I WILL SAY, WHO AND WHERE I AM AT THIS POINT IN MY LIFE FEELS LIKE THE CLOSEST I’VE EVER BEEN TO MY TRUE SELF. I’M EDGY. I STAND OUT, AND I’M 110% OK WITH IT.

Outside of modeling, you are certainly an artist. How long have you been painting, and what inspires you to create?
TWO YEARS OR SO MAYBE? I STILL FEEL LIKE A NEWBIE TO THE ART WORLD. I’M LESS FOCUSED ON SOMEONE INSPIRING ME AND MORE FOCUSED ON EXPERIMENTING, HAVING FUN, AND LEARNING ALONG THE WAY.

So, your first art show was last August. That’s huge! Congratulations on your success! How was that experience for you?
IT WAS NERVE WRECKING AND AMAZING AT THE SAME TIME. I THINK IT CAN BE HARD FOR ANY ARTIST TO PUT THEIR WORK OUT THERE. YOU NEVER KNOW HOW IT’S GOING TO BE RECEIVED. I SUPPOSE THAT’S ALSO THE BEAUTY OF IT…..
Art Show_New

Feeling and emotion are definitely a part of any craft, whether it be modeling or painting. In photographs…It shows through your facial expressions…it’s in your eyes. Painting…expression is in every stroke. You once wrote…
You_Once_Wrote_Script
Alex_Rock
What was your breakthrough moment when you started channeling all of that creative energy?
THERE IS NO BREAKTHROUGH MOMENT. THERE IS NO MAGIC “AHA” WHEN YOU FEEL LIKE YOU’RE THERE NOW. IT’S GRADUAL. IT’S A SLOW PROCESS. IT HAS TAKEN ME YEARS TO GET HERE, AND EVERY SINGLE DAY I WORK TO BETTER MYSELF, EXPRESS MORE, AND GET IT TO TRANSLATE THROUGH MY MEDIUM OF CHOICE.
How has this new way of thinking changed you as a person?
EVENTUALLY, YOU REACH A POINT IN YOUR LIFE WHERE YOU ARE JUST FED UP. YOU’RE TIRED OF NOT SEEING RESULTS, TIRED OF NOT BEING WHERE YOU WANT TO BE. I HAD TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR SOME OF MY ACTIONS (OR LACK THEREOF) AND REALLY GO FOR WHAT IT WAS I WANTED. I’M STILL ON THAT JOURNEY…..

DEAR BABY ALEX,
NEVER AGAIN PUT YOUR WORTH IN THE HANDS OF PEOPLE WHO DON’T UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU HAVE TO OFFER THIS WORLD. LOVE YOURSELF…..IT GETS BETTER.

Resort 2017

What is a

This year, from May 30th to June 10th, designers are presenting beautiful pieces that fall into the category of “Resort Collections”. These collections have also been called “Pre-Collections” or “Cruise Collections”, and the shows are held in New York every year.

The addition of these collections started when designers started making pieces for their clients who would jet-set or cruise in the warmer months. The presentation of these collections benefits designers by helping them see what grabs the attention of buyers. When designers create pieces for the upcoming season, you may see aspects of their previous Resort Collection in the new designs.

CompareandContrast

We are going to compare Rachel Zoe’s Resort 2015 Collection (top) with her Spring 2015 Ready-to-Wear Collection (bottom).

Rachel Zoe Resort 2015 DressRachel Zoe Resort 2015 JS Rachel_Zoe_007_1366 Spring 2015 DressRachel Zoe Spring JS

These styles are very similar, and all four outfits include tricolor tweed with fringe detailing. With just a few changes and additions in the tailoring, she created different looks that are both chic and wearable!

03-josie-natori-resort-17

This tunic dress is by designer Josie Natori. The colorful brush stroke pattern is definitely one of my favorite aspects. With the fabric being semi-sheer, it’s breathable, and can take you from day to night with ease! The accessories paired add an edgy contrast. This year, Josie Natori is celebrating her 40th year in business, and with that many years in the industry, she definitely knows a thing or two about style!

05-rachel-zoe-resort-17

I am in love with this floral dress designed by Rachel Zoe! The fabric loops together in the front to create a soft empire waist, and this creates a flattering shape that is ultra feminine. This is a design trend that Rachel Zoe is known for. The mint in the floral detailing and the chiffon fabric soften up the darkness in the dress to create the perfect look.

Bonus: This dress is perfect for all shapes and sizes. The bust area is spacious enough for a larger chest, and is not super low cut. If you have a smaller chest, the rope detail will play up that area! If are trying to conceal your midsection, the waist starts a bit high (flowly material is your friend). If you are a bit more narrow, the empire waist creates shape for that extra curve you are looking for!

09-rachel-zoe-resort-17

This tan, cable knit sweater dress is also by Rachel Zoe! You can definitely put this piece in the Boho catergory. It is slightly see through, and with the fringe detailing at the bottom, this makes for a sexy, yet comfy piece that would make a great addition to anyone’s closet. Pieces like this are the golden ticket for those of you who at least once a week scream…

“I don’t know what to wear!” or “I’m going to be late!”

You can just grab this one and go.

Bonus: The nude coloring, vertical cable knit design and fringe paired together will elongate the body for a very slimming, yet lengthening effect. Who would pass up a dress that makes your legs look amazing? Fringe with benefits!

14-sally-lapointe-resort-17

While the designer, Sally LaPointe, may not be so colorful (She normally wears all black)…This sleeveless, knit turtleneck definitely makes a bright and bold statement. This citron green was the pop of color in her Resort 2017 collection. In addition to this burst of color, the high neckline really caught my attention. Also, let’s not forget to mention the deep side cut outs that give a little sultry exposure.

Bonus: A piece like this can easily be pushed into the many different categories. Switch it up! Dress it up with heels and a statement clutch or down with distressed skinny jeans and oversized glasses. Are you up for the challenge? If styled correctly, this piece could definitely get you featured in the Street Style section of Vogue.com.

protagonist-resort-17-23

This technical day trench by Protagonist is a versatile must have! The sunburst orange color can take you from season to season. The interesting thing about this coat is that is has no buttons, and that can benefit many body types. Women with a larger bust do not have to worry about buttons struggling to stay together, and women with a slimmer frame gain curve due to the belted waist (Sneak Peak). For those who are trying to shy away from their curves, this coat draws attention toward the face with the oversized notch lapels and tailored cuts.

44-jonathan-simkhai-resort-17

Jonathan Simkhai has really outdone himself with his jumpsuit, and while this is one of many lace pieces in his collection, it is most definitely my favorite. The detailing in the top portion was inspired by the glass ceilings of the Grand Palais in Paris, France and the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milano, Italy. This jumpsuit definitely falls into the evening wear category, and would make an amazing wedding reception outfit. The flared pant hugs the hips to add shape, and with a train this long, it elongates the leg. You will not need a lot of jewelry (if any at all) with this outfit due to the intricate designs.

Bonus: Simkhai was one of the three recipients of the 2015 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund. He was awarded $300,000 to invest in his label! This award comes with an additional yearlong mentorship with an industry veteran to help the recipients with their businesses. Talk about #Winning!

According to Jessie

After a little Q & A session last week, I figured today would be the perfect day to talk about Mr. Jessie T. Usher. Can you say Man Crush Monday? This young actor is really making a name for himself. As the star of the hit series Survivor’s Remorse, portraying Cam Calloway, Jessie has gained quite a fan base.

The series starts out telling the story of the Cam & the rest of the Calloway family after he signs a multimillion-dollar contract with an Atlanta basketball team. Now in 2016, the show is on its third season.

If you haven’t seen the show, you are MISSING OUT!

In case you missed that last part…I’ll say it again.

Season 3 of Survivor’s Remorse airs July 24, 2016.

Fun Fact: Jessie might kill it on-screen as basketball star Cam Calloway, but when I asked what some of his favorites were, he stated…

“As far as sports go, my favorite to watch is football.”

Steven Hiller was portrayed by Will Smith in the 1996 Oscar-winning film Independence Day. You know the story right? Hostile aliens try to take over, and the military tries to stop them? Well, Jessie has been busy shooting in the deserts of Albuquerque, New Mexico. He will be starring as Dylan Hiller, son of Steven Hiller, in Independence Day: Resurgence!

The official release date for Independence Day: Resurgence is June 24, 2016.  Have you watched the trailer? If not, check it out right here!

Last year, Jessie stated that as far as upcoming projects, he would use  his “fourth quarter move”. He was looking for something toward the end of the year, but it had to “fit”.

Towards the end of this year, you will be seeing him in another movie entitled Almost Christmas. This Universal Pictures film is definitely promising.

The_PlotAfter the passing of their mother, a less than sane family gathers for Christmas. All that is asked of them is to get a long….for 5 long days. They can do it…right? Not without some difficulty….ok…I lied. A lot of difficulty!

The_CastKimberly Elise, Omar Epps, Danny Glover, Romany Malco, Mo’Nique, Nicole Ari Parker, J.B. Smoove, Gabrielle Union, DC Young Fly and of course…Jessie T. Usher!

With an all-star lineup like this, Almost Christmas is definitely on my wish list.

The release date for this film has been set for November 11, 2016.

Fun Facts: When I asked Jessie who inspired him the most, he said his parents. Jessie has been accomplishing great things since he was a kid: Being little Simba in the Lion King on Broadway in New York & performing in Shakespeare in D.C.

Everyone has a hobby, and every time I turn around…Jessie has a camera in his hand! I wanted to know what got him into photography….So of course I asked. His answer…

Jessie: “My desire to start directing. I figured it’d be a good idea to start looking at things thru a lens.”

Jessie_Photography

“Photography is an art of observation. It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place. I’ve found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.”
– Elliot Erwitt

Fun Facts: Not only does he enjoy photography, but Jessie studied Culinary Arts when he moved out to California from Maryland, and he loves Indian food.

Jessie, congratulations on all your accomplishments! You are doing so many great things, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for you. Also, thank you for taking the time to participate in my Q & A. You’re a sweetheart.

Rocksbox Review: April 2016

It’s the 1st of May, and that means I’ve gotten a good feel for my recent Rocksbox set… I can’t just open the box, and give a review. What kind of person do you think I am? Now if you searched for “Rocksbox Reviews” then you know what you’re looking for. If you stumbled upon this via Google, my Instagram, Facebook or Twitter, you might be asking yourself…

What is a Rocksbox

Let me see if I can make this short and sweet…

Rocksbox is a jewelry service that presents its members with a subscription box every month for a flat rate. The pieces are all designer brands, and come in an array of styles. If  this is your first time hearing about this company or want even more details…

Check out my first Rocksbox review!

Let us continue…

Lauri Stickynote

Now I am going to tell you right now….I have not and will not wear this necklace and these earrings together.

I’m just not, and this is due to the fact that the necklace is BRIGHT gold and the earrings are a ANTIQUE brass. The second reason is …I am not a fan of huge earrings and a long/huge necklace at the same time. I need some kind of balance. If you like that type of thing…by all means…Be my guest. The ring I will wear with the necklace or by itself!

compare and contrast

We all know that the things we want to get online do not always look the same in person. These pieces however are GORGEOUS! The pictures from the site do not do them justice whatsoever.

BONUS: I have a gift for a few of you, so keep reading! If you follow me on Instagram & Twitter… You already know what I’m talking about.

The Kendra Scott Rayne necklace took me by surprise. I don’t know why, but I did not expect the piece on this necklace to be as big as it is. I love it! I am such a flower child at heart, and this type of necklace is right up my alley.

The color of this necklace is in Slate, but it also comes in 35 other color variations that can be seen here!

The retail price for this necklace is $80 USD

The Rocksbox Shine Insiders’ price is $64 USD

These Loren Hope Abba earrings in the color Deep Sea make my heart sing! I will admit that they caught me off guard at first. I was afraid that they might be heavy. You know you thought it too! They are actually very light weight, and the perfect size. I put them on  my wishlist because I wanted to try something out of my comfort zone. This teal color is one of my favorites, so I couldn’t pass them up.

The retail price for this pair of earrings is $78 USD

The Rocksbox Shine Insiders’ price is $66 USD

Minimalist jewelry is definitely trending right now. Sophie Harper is know for presenting very delicate pieces, and this dainty little ring is the perfect accessory. You can wear this ring for a dressy occasion or a casual girl’s day. I fell in love with this collection when I received my first Rocksbox, and I think this will definitely be my go-to brand for simple pieces.

The retail price for this little treasure is $33 USD

The Rocksbox Shine Insiders’ price is $66 USD

Fact: If it hasn’t crossed your mind already, let me enlighten you. All Rocksbox jewelry is sanitized before being sent out. I carefully examined all of these pieces, and they are pristine! I am a complete germaphobe, so I did my research.

I know you want to see what the hype is all about.
