Off Day Pamper Routine 2017

PamperRoutine_OffDay_Diasehs

I’m free! My busy work weekend is over, and I am exhausted. I’m an Event Coordinator, and I have a crazy work schedule at times so, when I can squeeze in a little self time…I AM ALL FOR IT!

For the past couple of months, I have been experimenting with a few new products and falling in love with some old favorites. This pamper day usually falls on a business day. That is huge for me! I am not disturbed as much because almost everyone I know is at work…Don’t make that face. I love you guys!

Let the pampering begin!

The first part isn’t exactly pampering at all. It’s part of my daily therapy…Coffee! I love having something hot to drink after waking up in the morning. I’m feeling in the fall spirit this morning, so I am going to enjoy some pumpkin spice creamer from Califia Farms. It’s so good! If you haven’t tried it, this is an absolute must have for any fall coffee junkie.

Pumpkin Coffee Creamer_Diasehs

To begin any magical off day, I must watch at least one episode of Sex and the City. The older the episode…the better! Everything Carrie Bradshaw makes my heart sing.

Sex and the City_Diasehs

I can’t start a pamper day without taming this crazy mess on my head! Ok, not so much a mess, but I don’t like going for a certain amount of days without washing my hair.

Can I get an amen? Thank you!

The Breakdown

This is the Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Shampoo and matching conditioner by Shea Moisture. I purchased this set from my local Walgreens.

The conditioner has a soft honey scent. The shampoo smells much more like the oils than the conditioner does. Both products are sulfate free and for dry hair. In my opinion, this is an all around set. They also contain African Rock Fig and Baobab Oil.

Shea Moisture Honey_Diasehs

According to the product description and my own personal research…

Manuka Honey has anti-inflammatory properties, it soothes the scalp and helps create a moisturizing barrier.

Mafura Oil has high levels of hair thickening & strengthening Oleic Acid. It also helps replenish oils that are stripped from the hair during our everyday activities.

The African Rock Fig contains Vitamin C, and this aids in keeping our hair strong and vibrant. This also improves the hair’s elasticity. #winning

Baobab Oil is rich in Omegas 3, 6, 9 and vitamins that repair the hair from root to end. This oil adds extra shine to the hair and protects it from pollution & UV rays.

After shampooing my hair, I will let my conditioner sit on my hair while I slide into the next part of my routine…

TheDryBrush_Diasehs

Eco Tools Brush_Diasehs

Dry brushing is somewhat new to me. In the past I would use a regular shower brush. The all over kind that you wet, cover in body wash and use to scrub all over. The first time I used this dry brush I was so confused. It hurt! I felt like I had been slapped in the leg, chest, neck, thigh…just everywhere. This is good for overall exfoliation, and it preps my body for the next part of my pamper routine..but beware…scrubbing too hard might make you change your religion. It WILL hurt.

EcoTools_Diasehs

This dry brush is from Eco Tools! You can snag this one at your local Ulta or Ulta.com

Time for some mango love! I will shower regularly, shave, rinse my hair and all that jazz after my dry brushing session. Once my hair is pinned back up and out of the way, it’s time to use my Shea Sugar Scrub by Tree Hut. The scent is Tropical Mango, and this one is my absolute favorite!

Tree Hut Tropical Mango_Diasehs

Tiny Tip: If you add a bit of coconut oil to this body scrub, it will moisturize the skin, add a nice glow to your body and hold the scent much longer! Who doesn’t love smelling like a tropical paradise?

Depending on what I have going on with my hair at this point (natural hair or weave), I generally let it stay in the clip until after my next step.

Time for a much needed face mask! I know my skin probably hates me right now due to all the mess I have been up to the past few weeks, but….that’s why I purchased the I’m Real Cactus Mask Sheet by Tony Moly. I got this particular one from Urban Outfitters when I was in Scottsdale, AZ. No Urban Outfitters? That’s ok! You can pick them up at Ulta, Amazon or the Tony Moly website.

Tony Moly Cactus Mask-Diasehs

This mask is loaded with so much yummy goodness, including prickly pear extract. Keep in mind…I did say MASK SHEET, so expect to look a little crazier than the usual.

TonyMoly_Cactus_Diasehs

After 20 minutes, I peeled the mask off and rinsed my face with warm water, then cold water to seal in all the greatness! I always add Vitamin E cream to my face and lip balm  after doing a mask.

Voilà! Cleansed, hydrated, happy skin!

PinkBow1_Diasehs

Time to slay! At this point I will finish drying my hair and style it to my liking. I’m feeling straight hair this go around! After having curls and waves for the past few days, and I need to switch it up.

HairPamper_Diasehs

The final portion of my pamper routine is to change my polish color! This past time I chose a coral pink color, and I am completely bored with that. Today’s choice is a nude shade. I love a nice, natural color sometimes. Strangely enough, the nail polish that I chose came from Old Navy! Before this polish I did not know that they sold nail polish at all. It’s a pale blush/nude polish by Tip Toe, and it is called Ballerina.

Sex, Sushi & Body Confidence

Good Morning Beautiful,

Today is Saturday, and it’s officially the weekend. Let me fill you in on my Friday night. I invited a few friends over for a girl’s night of food, wine and binge watching Sex & the City. Typical? Yes, very much so, but let’s stay focused. We started with Season 1, and by episode 2 I was laughing at the irony. Here we were matching the scene in front of us all the way down to the messy buns and post hell week chill clothes. We were sitting around the table discussing men…and women for some of us. The plot of this episode was centered around models, beauty and, “giraffes with big breasts.” Looking around we all burst out laughing. I might be tall, but I don’t consider a 36C to be so big, so I think I’m safe. All of us are tall for women ( 5’8” to about 6’0”), and we’ve all heard the oh so famous phrase.. “You’re so tall….You should be a model.”

This is when the topic hit me…What’s more important? Size or health?

The “industry” has taken a hold on us all at some point. Myself included. Too small, too tall, fat, skinny… WHO CARES?! I am not always happy with all the newest trends, but I am happy with one that should already be a natural state of mind.

Body Confidence

Does being a size 4 make you healthy? No.

Does being a size 18 make you unhealthy? No.

All sizes are circumstantial. When I was a size 8, I was the unhealthiest I had been in my entire life. I was bouncing back and forth between Starbucks and an eating disorder. Yes, I am one of many who have struggled.

Diasehs_GoCoconuts

It took me 25 years to be comfortable with my 5’10 1/4”, size 14/16 body, and I am the happiest that I have EVER been!

Still struggling? Need a boost?

Here are a few body confidence tips, do’s and don’ts to help put some things into perspective:

1. Do: Fight the old tale. Shoot the messenger!

Have you ever had someone say something negative to you about your body, weight or size that completely ruined your mood? Have you had a thought in the changing room that made you put down the most amazing outfit? Shoot the messenger!!

Disclaimer: I’m not asking you to go out and kill anybody!

If someone tells you something negative about your body…SPEAK UP! For every negative thing you hear, speak another positive. For every reason you think you shouldn’t wear that outfit… Think of every reason why you should. Stop that negative feeling before it starts, and be your own self love publicist.

Don’t: Cuss out your doctor for giving you health advice.

2. Do: Get naked!

Spend more time in your birthday suit! Prance around the house, and sleep naked more often. You will learn more about your body, and there’s nothing better than being comfortable in your own skin. Did you know only 17% of Americans sleep completely naked? Shocker to me! Let’s add to the number shall we?

Don’t: Walk around naked if you have roommates! I would hate for you to walk out into a living room full of people. AWKWARD!!

3. Do: Spend time in the mirror

Think about this. Majority of the time when we look in the mirror it’s because we are looking for something to be wrong. Is my hair ok? Is there something in my teeth? Let me fix my lipstick…The list goes on. When is the last time you sat in the mirror to think about all the things that are right about you? No makeup, no lashes, nothing extra…Just you. Every morning or every night find something about yourself that you love. Look in the mirror and see how beautiful you are.

Don’t: Do this in a public place or while driving! We have the tendency to get caught up in our looks.

4. Smile for goodness sake!

Don’t? There isn’t one. Smile for any and every reason. The more you smile, the better you will feel!

Review | Smashbox Studio Skin Foundation

Diasehs Smashbox Studio Skin

Ladies, Gentlemen & Unicorns…I have stumbled upon another amazing product!

The Backstory | As a WOC (Woman of Color), I struggle with finding the correct shade of foundation. It has nothing to do with my color matching skills or the product price point. I have an orange/warm undertone. That leaves me with a dilemma most of the time. It is generally one of two things…My skin will look like I have on funeral home makeup, or I will look three shades darker for no reason. Nothing against having a tan but I need my face and neck to match so that I don’t look like a cakepop! I have been playing around with this new foundation for a month or so just to make sure I really like it…This one is A1!

THE REVIEWS ON DIASEHS.COM ARE MY PERSONAL OPINIONS, AND NOT THOSE OF ANY ADVERTISER, COMPANY, AFFILIATE OR GROUP. IF THESE PRODUCTS PRESENTED WORK FOR ME, THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT THEY WILL 100% WORK FOR YOU. PLEASE READ ALL INGREDIENTS IN PRODUCTS BEFORE USE. THAT IS NOT JUST REGARDING THIS POST, BUT FOR ANY PRODUCT THAT YOU PUT IN OR ON YOUR FACE AND BODY. THANK YOU!

The Product | I PURCHASED this foundation from my local Ulta for $42.00 USD (excluding tax). I know some of you are saying…$42…I’m not spending that much on foundation blah, blah…etc. It is WORTH IT! I chose the shade 4.05, and that was an exact match for me.

Smashbox Studio Skin Shades

This product is available in 22 shades and has a very thin consistency. At first I was a bit thrown off. When you initially apply this product… it looks very dewy. After that, it settles into a natural/matte finish. Work quickly because it settles fast! This foundation passed the Beauty Blender Test! Most thin foundations get soaked into your beauty blender (Wet or Not). This one blended evenly and kept a nice finish all day. I don’t find myself looking oily throughout the day or worrying about looking like I just went for a run.

PS: You can layer this product for a medium to full coverage look. Let the previous layer settle before adding another one to prevent creasing.

The Rating |  ⋆ ⋆ ⋆ ⋆

Reason? Color, Finish, Longevity, Packaging & Cruelty Free!

I can’t give it 5 stars because no product is PERFECT, but for my skin…it’s pretty close!

Review | Younique Products

Younique Products

I think every woman who wears makeup goes through that periodic search for their new staple product. Majority of the time it is a foundation, primer or mascara. If you are not willing to admit to this…that’s fine, because I will. I am GUILTY, and I’m perfectly ok with that.

Let me give you a small breakdown of my personal makeup struggles when it comes to finding a good staple product:

  1. I have tiny lashes! Both my parents have beautiful, thick, long eyelashes. Somewhere down the line…someone messed up the cycle. That’s fine because I have found a way around this. Thank you for lengthening mascaras!
  2. I have an orange undertone. Now this is not really a struggle until it comes to foundation. I love the color of my skin! However, many makeup companies leave women of color with my same undertone in the dark. Majority of the foundations that I come across that claim to be a “warm” shade are the right color in the bottle, but are either too dark when dry or make me look washed out. Due to this, I have become a Mixologist!
  3. I have combination skin, and this is common for many women. My nose, forehead and chin (T-zone) are more shine prone throughout the day than the rest of my face. I have to find products for my face that balance everything out. Oil-free on the label does not always cut it.

Now that I am off of my soap box…Let’s get down to business shall we?

I was contacted by a Younique Products Presenter by the name of Jennifer Rougeux, and was asked to review some products for you all!

That is not just regarding this post, but for any product that you put in or on your face and body. Thank you!

Foundation_Final.jpg

Younique’s Touch Mineral Foundation in Cypress – $39.00 USD

Younique’s Liquid Foundation Brush – $32.00 USD

When I originally opened the product package I was surprised. Not only by the construction of the bottle, but because Jennifer chose my correct foundation shade based on pictures alone (That doesn’t happen often). The top to the bottle is a long dropper.

PLEASE SHAKE/PALM ROLL THIS BOTTLE AND SQUEEZE THE DROPPER BEFORE USING IT!

The product will be extremely watery if you don’t…We don’t want that. The texture of the foundation after this is very light weight, and goes on smoothly. Despite the thin consistency, this product is buildable, and afterwards you won’t have a thick cake face. For those who love the “No Makeup-Makeup” look this is perfect, and is buildable for those who want that extra glam.

For the finer applications, the Younique Liquid Foundation Brush is perfect. The bristles are extremely soft and glide around corners easily. When I want more of a full coverage I use this brush first just to get the product right where I want it, then play double dutch with my  Real Techniques Expert Face Brush. For heavier applications, the Younique brush slid around a bit too much for my liking, but that’s just me.

Shine test approved! I am Event Coordinator, and there are times when I am working for 17 hours straight…I put this foundation to the test, and I had a fresh face all day!

Concealer1

Younique’s Touch Mineral Concealer in Cypress – $29.00 USD

This concealer is FULL COVERAGE & WATERPROOF. I was a bit skeptical at first, due to the tube being so tiny, but it does the trick. To put this product to the test, I covered half of my wrist tattoo with it. Those of you with ink know it takes a lot to cover a black ink tattoo!

| Full Coverage Test |

One layer of concealer was applied directly to the tattoo. No primer. No orange corrector. This was less than a dime size circle of product! I applied this product with my Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge in a dabbing motion.

| Waterproof Test |

Using the same application from the previous test, I let warm water run over the product for 2 minutes consistently. This concealer did not budge at all. I am sticking with this one for sure!

Primer1.jpg

Younique’s Glorious Face & Eye Primer – $39.00 USD

This is hands down my new favorite primer! I am a big fan of clear gel primers. They glide on with ease, and help your makeup go on so smoothly. A little bit of this product goes a long way. Do not cake it on or your face. If you do, your face will end up feeling slick, and your makeup will not stay where you want it to. Just a little bit does the trick!

Now I will say this, if you plan on using a cream based shadow…do not use this on your lids. The product will not adhere to your lid properly. For pressed shadows it is perfect, and it helps the shadow show in its truest color.

Eyeshadow.jpg

Younique’s Splurge Cream Eyeshadow in Splurge – $26.00 USD

I wasn’t exactly sure how I felt about this shadow at first. This shadow is in a spongy cream form. I wouldn’t exactly call it a shadow…it’s more like a lid “highlight” or “shimmer”.  I used this color by itself and it came out like a light cream shade and glitter. I tried using it on top of one of my pressed shadows and fell in love with it. It made the color pop! You can also use this product on the inner corner of your eyes. It catches the light very well. If you are doing a bronze/beachy look, then this is your go to!

Bonus: Here is a makeup look I did using this shadow! Eyeshadow_Younique

All Products: Vegas Nay’s Grand Glamour Lashes by Eylure, Buttery by Anastasia Beverly Hills (Self Made Palette) as a base, Puree by Too Faced (Sweet Peach Palette) as a transition color, Summer Yum by Too Faced (Sweet Peach Palette) as an outer corner transition color, Metallic Plum by Anastasia Beverly Hills (Self Made Palette) as a crease color, Treasure by Anastasia Beverly Hills (Self Made Palette) on the lid, Elegant by Younique on top of TreasureIsla by Anastasia Beverly Hills (Self Made Palette) on the lower lash line smoked out with Blue Velvet by Anastasia Beverly Hills (Artist Palette), Expresso Micro Brow Pencil by NYX and Carbon Black Better Than Sex Mascara by Too Faced on lower lashes.

Lipgloss

Younique’s Stiff Upper Lip Stain in Saucy– $22.00 USD

Story time! When I was a little girl, my mother used to let me play in her makeup, and I loved her red lipstick. Of course being a kid, I was not allowed to wear makeup. I found a sweet alternative in red popsicles. I loved the tint that it left on my lips, and that was my “makeup” for the few hours that it lasted. So I have always been a fan of red lip tints. They are sultry, but subtle enough for any occasion. I love this lip stain because it does not dry my lips out, and that seems to be a big problem with most tints. The product is thin, but it’s not runny. It literally looks like ink…and it should!

Mascara.jpg

Younique’s Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lashes+ – $29.00 USD

This mascara comes in two parts. The longer tube is the Transplanting Gel, and the shorter tube contains the Natural Fibers. The goal is to achieve long, natural looking lashes, and this gets the job done. However, there is a trick to it. The product directions say to coat your lashes with the gel then apply the fibers while the gel is still wet. After this, go back over the fibers with the gel to seal them in. You can repeat these steps until you have reached the look that you are going for. I do things a bit differently. I apply one coat of a regular lengthening mascara (Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara) FIRST, and then I use this mascara. The results are magical!

The first image is with no mascara, the second is with one coat of the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara and the last is with 2 coats of the Younique Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lashes+.

The Interview | Alex Undone

Art is an expression…A showcase of creative skill & imagination. Visual seduction to be appreciated for its beauty. Bringing emotion to the surface and leaving you with a lasting impression. A textured foundation with a beautiful silhouette…manifesting in her dreams.
I introduce to you Alexandra Cunningham.
A model…An artist.

I came across Alex in the YouTube video “PROMBOYISH: The Ultimate Tomboy Prom Lookbook” on Ari Fitz’s TOMBOYISH channel.

My initial thoughts were…Wow, she is GORGEOUS! Who is this woman?  Her look is really different…What’s her story? So, after a little digging and sending of emails …

The Interview

Alex_MountainTop.jpg

Alex_Title

Where are you from, and what is your current city?
GERMANY RAISED ME… L.A. CHANGED ME.

How was your experience growing up in Germany?
I WOULDN’T CHANGE IT FOR THE WORLD. GERMANY IS AND WILL ALWAYS BE HOME. GROWING UP AS A MILITARY BRAT OVERSEAS TAUGHT ME TO APPRECIATE OTHER CULTURES AND OUR DIFFERENCES IN SOCIETY.

You most definitely bridge the gap between women’s fashion and menswear. Did you anticipate this when you first got into the industry, or did it catch you by surprise?
I KNEW MY LOOK WAS DIFFERENT FROM MOST GIRLS, BUT I DIDN’T KNOW THERE WAS A WORD FOR IT. I WAS FIRST INTRODUCED TO THE TERM “ANDROGYNY” A FEW YEARS AGO.  I WILL SAY, WHO AND WHERE I AM AT THIS POINT IN MY LIFE FEELS LIKE THE CLOSEST I’VE EVER BEEN TO MY TRUE SELF. I’M EDGY. I STAND OUT, AND I’M 110% OK WITH IT.

Outside of modeling, you are certainly an artist. How long have you been painting, and what inspires you to create?
TWO YEARS OR SO MAYBE? I STILL FEEL LIKE A NEWBIE TO THE ART WORLD. I’M LESS FOCUSED ON SOMEONE INSPIRING ME AND MORE FOCUSED ON EXPERIMENTING, HAVING FUN, AND LEARNING ALONG THE WAY.

So, your first art show was last August. That’s huge! Congratulations on your success! How was that experience for you?
IT WAS NERVE WRECKING AND AMAZING AT THE SAME TIME. I THINK IT CAN BE HARD FOR ANY ARTIST TO PUT THEIR WORK OUT THERE. YOU NEVER KNOW HOW IT’S GOING TO BE RECEIVED. I SUPPOSE THAT’S ALSO THE BEAUTY OF IT…..
Art Show_New

Feeling and emotion are definitely a part of any craft, whether it be modeling or painting. In photographs…It shows through your facial expressions…it’s in your eyes. Painting…expression is in every stroke. You once wrote…
You_Once_Wrote_Script
Alex_Rock
What was your breakthrough moment when you started channeling all of that creative energy?
THERE IS NO BREAKTHROUGH MOMENT. THERE IS NO MAGIC “AHA” WHEN YOU FEEL LIKE YOU’RE THERE NOW. IT’S GRADUAL. IT’S A SLOW PROCESS. IT HAS TAKEN ME YEARS TO GET HERE, AND EVERY SINGLE DAY I WORK TO BETTER MYSELF, EXPRESS MORE, AND GET IT TO TRANSLATE THROUGH MY MEDIUM OF CHOICE.
How has this new way of thinking changed you as a person?
EVENTUALLY, YOU REACH A POINT IN YOUR LIFE WHERE YOU ARE JUST FED UP. YOU’RE TIRED OF NOT SEEING RESULTS, TIRED OF NOT BEING WHERE YOU WANT TO BE. I HAD TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR SOME OF MY ACTIONS (OR LACK THEREOF) AND REALLY GO FOR WHAT IT WAS I WANTED. I’M STILL ON THAT JOURNEY…..

Best Face Forward

When is the last time you changed your skincare routine?

The products that you put on your skin are so important. They could be the difference between looking like you just got a spa facial or looking like a leather purse…

Hopefully you would be Hermès, but that is besides the point.

Whether you have dry skin, acne prone skin, oily or combination skin…We have all come across the golden questions:

What would make my skin better?
What’s the new thing to try?

Under the makeup, self tanner, or whatever it is that you wear…once it’s gone, there is only one thing left…

Naked…Nude….Bare…

skin

Hopefully this list of serums can guide you to radiance.

one

Dry Skin? Try the HydraSea Ultra Moisturizing Polarized Water Serum by Phytomer- $82.00 USD (1 oz.) at Dermstore

This product contains Weaving Algae. What does it do? As a very active ingredient, the algae adds a protective layer to the skin. It holds the moisture deep in the skin to combat dryness. It also encourages production of collagen, and that keeps your skin looking youthful.

When shopping for a good serum, especially for dry/sensitive skin, it’s important to find one that contains a decent amount of water. Let’s look at the ingredients shall we:

ingredients

beautytip
When looking at ingredients, the order in which they are listed is done by quantity. There is a method to the madness. Most serums contain water, but products that contain a mass amount of water have a short shelf life. Once you open it, use it. Do not let it sit and collect dust. The product will lose effectiveness. If you still have that serum, foundation or moisturizer from over a year ago…It is time to throw it out. General time frame is 6 months to a year. The only exception is for ingredients that are in quantities of less than 1%. After they hit that mark, they can be listed in whatever order the manufacturer wants. If you pick up a product and the first half of the ingredients scare you…please do us all a favor and…

Large Pores? Try the ‘Idealist’ Pore Minimizing Skin Refinisher by Estée Lauder- $55.00 USD (1 oz.) | $82.00 USD (1.5 oz.) at Sephora

What caught my attention about this serum was not the cute bottle that it comes in, but the scent. No one wants something on their face that doesn’t smell nice. This serum has a earthy/citrus smell. This is probably due to the grapefruit and green tea leaf extract. Grapefruit also helps with increased production of collagen. Green tea has been known to reduce inflammation, and that helps minimize the look of pores. With a silky texture and a bit of shimmer, this product is definitely an attention grabber!

Estee-Lauder-Idealist-Constance-Jablonski-Joan-Smalls-Liu-Wen

Untitled-4

Super Oily Skin? Try the ‘Total Matteness’ Oil-free Mattifying Pore Eraser by Philosophy- $41.00 USD On Sale! $22.55 USD (1 oz.) at Philosophy

This product is the T-Zone Savior! I can’t think of a Philosophy product that I haven’t been fond of. You can wear this one bare faced or under makeup with no issues. If you have oily to super oily skin, this is the product for you. If you have combination skin, I would not advise this product. Reason? It could be overly drying to your skin.

A heavy hitter in this product is Bambusa Arundinacea Stem Extract…also known as Bamboo Stem. What does it do? The bamboo absorbs oil! Another great benefit is the large amount of silica within bamboo. This helps once again with increased production of collagen. Silica has been known as the “beauty mineral”.

Bonus: This product contains salicylic acid. That means the speed at which your skin renews itself will increase, and it helps with acne. It’s a win-win!

WARNING: KEEP AWAY FROM SENSITIVE AREAS OF FACE: EYES & LIPS ESPECIALLY

Untitled-4L

Combination Skin? Try the Umbrian Clay® Mattifying Serum by Fresh®- $37.00 USD (1 oz.)  at Fresh

If you have combination skin and live in a very humid climate….Thank me later. This serum is full of a much sought after Italian mineral called Umbrian Clay.

Umbrian Clay is found in Nocera Umbra and has awesome benefits:

Soothes irritation
Reduces breakouts
Turns over healthy skin cells

This product also contains olive leaf extract, lemon fruit extract and cucumber fruit extract. That’s a serious triple threat! The olive leaf extract helps moisturize, prevent aging and aids in healing of the skin. The lemon fruit extract assists in the lightening of dark marks and evening out the complexion. Cucumber fruit extract adds that much needed soothing feeling so everything is balanced.

Untitled-4G

Acne Scars? Try the Youth Code Dark Spot Correcting & Illuminating Serum Corrector by L’Oréal- $24.99 USD (1 oz.) at Ulta

I give this serum the seal of approval! I have been using this particular serum for 4 weeks, and I can honestly say that I am in love with it. The formula glides on smoothly, and it smells great. The product soaks in rather quickly…I’m impressed. The product looks like a serum/lotion. Personally it makes an amazing makeup primer, but that’s just me. This serum is full of Niacinamide. What is that? It is a vitamin that falls into the B3 vitamin category. B3 is the go to for radiant skin and treatment of inflammatory acne. Niacinamide prevents the skin from losing water, and it protects the skin from UV damage.

Bonus: This serum has the SAME effects as the Lacome Advanced Genifique Youth Activating Concentrate. With 1 oz. of the Lancome serum at $78.00 USD (3x the price of Youth Code), we can see that L’Orèal has the better deal.

Untitled-4O

Age Rewind? Try the Anti-Aging Intensive Repair Daily Serum by Prevage- $230.00 USD (1 oz.) at Elizabeth Arden

I know you are looking at this price and saying…”This better come from gold.”

Just hear me out.

The first thing that caught my attention was that it contains Chondrus Crispus Extract. What’s that? It is a seaweed extract that is full of vitamins and minerals! If you are not familiar with that name, it is commonly referred to as Irish Moss.

The second was Retinyl Linoleate. This is a Retinoid, which means it is a form of Vitamin A. Retinoids stimulate the skin and reduce signs of aging.

This product claims to improve skin firmness by 60% in 4 weeks…

Are you up for the challenge?

Untitled-5b

Tony Moly I’m Real – Aloe Face Mask Sheet- $7.50 USD at Ulta

I am very iffy on new face masks in packages… Especially the individually packaged ones. Sensitive skin + New item is a bit scary at times. Walking through Ulta one day, I came across this one, and figured, “Ah it’s worth a try.” This face mask feels amazing! It has a cooling sensation due to the aloe vera, and the sheet is comfortable to wear.

Just kick back and relax.

20 min will fly by! It is not a serum…BUT it is great for all skin types.

Haute Holiday Proposal

After attending the beautiful engagement brunch of a friend, I started thinking. Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and Christmas is not far off. This is the time of year when people start coming into town for holiday visits.

Introducing your boyfriend or girlfriend to the family can be a bit stressful. For some, it might be more serious than that. Making the big leap and proposing can be downright nerve-racking. After long hours of planning the perfect proposal, practicing what to say and searching numerous jewelry stores, the only thing left is an answer.

That hopeful and long awaited “YES”.

After the proposal, the first thing that everyone says is, “Let me see the ring!”

I would like to share my favorite pieces from Couture ring designers Chanel & Danhov

The debut of Chanel’s fine jewelry was in 1932 at the “Bijoux de Diamants” exhibit in Paris, France. To celebrate the 80th anniversary, Chanel released a collection based off of the classic 1932 pieces.

18K White Gold & Diamonds

Price: $49,500.00 USD

Another beautiful collection stemmed from Coco Chanel’s favorite flower, the camellia. This flower is very feminine and delicate. This selection represents just that.

Camélia Solitaire

18K White Gold & Diamonds

Price: $46,500.00 USD

Danhov was founded in 1984 by Jack Hovsepian. You should expect nothing less than luxury and haute couture beauty from this designer. After shadowing his fashion designer father, Hovsepian looked to his background as inspiration for his creations. These avant garde designs are sure to catch the eye and halt all conversation!

Banish Fall Frizz

 header

Fall is officially here, and while we are looking at new clothes, makeup trends and planning for the holidays…This season comes with a few beauty twists. One of those major twists is frizzy hair! Fall is the “iffy” season. It is still a bit humid outside, and it is leaning towards cooler weather. That’s a recipe for poodle hair, and I don’t know about you guys, but I don’t like it.

So what could you possibly do to minimize that fluff? Keep reading!

The Breakdown

Frizzy hair occurs when the hair is very dry and porous. When your hair is like this, it sucks up all the moisture in the air like a sponge! Before you know it you might be rocking a Halloween costume wig.

QUENCH YOUR THIRST: If you don’t drink enough water, your hair will definitely tell on you! Drinking the appropriate amount of water will nourish your hair from the inside out.

Tip: You should be drinking about half an ounce to an ounce of water for every pound that you weigh. Example: If you weigh 150 pounds, you should be going through 8 Dasani water bottles a day (16.9 oz. per bottle).

DEEP CONDITION: This should already be a part of you beauty routine, but in the colder months deep conditioning is extremely important. When you deep condition your hair, it coats the hair shaft and seals the moisture in.

Tip: Rinse your hair with cool water last, and dry it with a cotton t-shirt. Reason? The cool water will seal the hair shaft, and the t-shirt will help minimize the frizz that much more. When drying you hair with the t-shirt DO NOT vigorously rub your hair. Use a wringing motion to squeeze the water out.

Not sure what to use?…Try this!

Sweet Melody Deep Conditioner

  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • 1 tablespoon of coconut oil
  • 4 tablespoons of your favorite conditioner (I use Pantene Pro-V Smooth & Sleek Conditioner with Argan Oil)

You can increase these measurements if your hair is longer or thicker. This deep conditioner is good for all hair types. If your hair is more fine, only use half a tablespoon of coconut oil. Too much oil on very fine hair can weigh the hair down.

Not a fan of mixology? That’s ok too!

Product of choice: Miss Jessie’s Rapid Recovery Treatment ($14.00 USD for 8 oz. & $24.00 USD for 16 oz.)

ALWAYS USE PROTECTION: Now get your minds out of the gutter, and remember that we are talking about hair care. If your hair is fried, died and laid to the side, then you probably have issues with your hair being frizzy year round. That’s ok….We can fix it! Refer to step one, and after that make sure you use a good heat-protecting spray or serum. If your hair is more fine, go with a spray. If you hair is thick, use a serum.

Tip: When using heat-protecting spray or serum, be sure to apply it while the hair is still damp. If you apply it when the hair is dry, it will just sit on top of the hair. If you have been doing this, that will explain where the sizzle in your straightening routine has been coming from. You will thank me later.

Products of choice:

Super Skinny Serum by Paul Mitchell ($20.99 USD), Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Protective Spray by TRESemmé ($5.00-$6.00 USD) and Ever-Straight Brazilian Keratin Therapy Flat Iron Spray by Organix ($7.99 USD)

BLAME IT ON THE ALCOHOL: If you use mousse or holding spray on your hair, try to opt out on the products that contain alcohol. Alcohol makes the hair cuticle swell up, and this makes your hair look frizzy.

Tip: Remember that a little goes a long way. Regardless of the product being alcohol-free, a mass buildup of product can cause the hair to frizz and make the hair extremely dry.

Products of choice: Hair Milk Nourishing & Conditioning Styling Foam by Carol’s Daughter ($12.00 USD), and the Brilliant Hair Spray by Aveda ($21.00 USD)

Arch & Point: The Brow Campaign

Header
Your eyebrows set the balance for your face…they keep things in order so to speak. Before you can achieve this “balance”, there are some steps that you must take!

Ask yourself, “What is my face shape?

Why is this important? There is no such thing as the “perfect brow shape” that suits everyone. Also, if you have spent years waxing and tweezing…you may not know what your natural brow shape is. Don’t go back and try to find childhood photos right now. Just pay attention.

There are 6 categories of face shapes that majority of people fit into: Square, Oval, Round, Heart, Diamond and Oblong.

If you’re not sure what your face shape is, don’t worry. SNAP A SELFIE!! A front facing picture will help you. Do not smile or make any expressions in this photo. You are doing this to find your natural face shape. Now let’s analyze the picture.

If the sides of your face are straight, your face is almost as wide as it is long, and your jawline is defined with a small curve… You have a Square face shape.

Celebrity example: Cara Delevingne

If your forehead that is slightly wider than your chin, your jawline is a bit rounded, and your face is longer than it is wide…You have an Oval face shape.

Celebrity example:  Beyoncé Knowles-Carter

If your cheekbones are the widest part of your face and your jaw is a bit curved then you have a Round face shape. Some associate this face shape with having “chubby cheeks“, but that is not always the case.

Celebrity example: Mila Kunis

If you have a long, pointed jawline, and your chin is the smallest point of your face…You have a Heart face shape. This face shape is sometimes called an “Inverted Triangle” for obvious reasons, but the chin area does not have to be an exact point!

Celebrity example: Miranda Kerr

If your chin is narrow and pointed, your cheekbones are high and your hairline is narrow in width, then you have a Diamond face shape. This face shape is the least common.

If your forehead, cheeks and jawline are pretty much the same width all the way down…You have an Oblong face shape. Think of this face shape as a rectangle.

Now that you know your face shape…Let’s find your brow shape!

Square face shapes are balanced by eyebrows that are strong, but they must have a slight curve. The goal is to make an “even playing field”. Your jawline is the most distinct feature. A strong brow will complement nicely. Feel free to go a shade darker than your usual brow color, but NEVER use black! It will come off extremely harsh.

Ohhh lucky lucky you! If you have an Oval face, the struggle is not that bad. Your face is balanced already. A brow with a soft angle will do your face justice. Just make sure that your arch is not too defined. Pin thin arches are a no go!

Round face shapes can take this post title and run with it. Arch & Point!! Brows with high and sharp angles add a vertical point in the face. This will make the face appear a bit longer. Let your brow follow a slight upward slant until you get to your arch.

Heart face shapes are a bit tricky. The main focus is already directed toward the eyes and forehead. No major arching is necessary. Try to keep the arch semi-straight, and make sure your brows are neatly trimmed. This will soften up the look around the eye area.

Brows for Diamond shaped faces are similar to those with Oval face shapes. A nice curved brow will balance the face. The goal is to make the widest portion of your face (cheek area) appear more narrow.

For Oblong face shapes, very arched brows will make the face appear longer than it already is. We don’t want that! A straighter brow will serve as a “horizontal” marker, and will make the face appear a bit shorter because they extend outward.

Oils: Your New Best Friends

No matter what season it is, you want to be sure that your hair and skin glow! Nourishment is extremely important, and if you feel a little “rough around the edges” lately…this is what you’re looking for!

Let’s start with the basics shall we?

Carrier oils? What are those?

Carrier Oils

Carrier oils are pressed from the fat bearing portions (seeds, nuts, etc.) and do not evaporate. The scents of these oils are not as strong as that of essential oils.

Some examples of carrier oils are: Argan, Olive & Monoi

Argan Oil: This popular oil comes from the kernels of the Argan tree. This tree is found in Morocco. It can be used on the hair or skin. It is more frequently used on the hair as it is said to penetrate the hair shaft with amazing results: moisture, anti-frizz properties & shine.

x1388525_1388525__49990_std.png.pagespeed.ic.R-Y5ZuD9mK

Product: One ‘N Only Argan Oil 12-N-1 Daily Treatment can be purchased from Sally Beauty for $9.99 USD (In-Store & Online)

This product is AMAZING! I have used this personally on my hair when it was relaxed & now on my natural hair. Be sure not to use too much. A little goes a long way, especially with straight hair (Don’t want to weigh it down). When straightening hair, put this in your hair while it is wet.

Common confusion: Argan oil and Moroccan oil are NOT the same thing. They do indeed come from the same place, BUT….

  • Argan oil is from a kernel as previously stated (THAT IS ALL)
  • Moroccan oil is not just one thing. It is made from various ingredients, and Argan oil is one of those ingredients

You can pick up this 0.8 oz. Moroccan Oil Treatment at Nordstrom for $14.80 USD!

Keep in mind that Moroccan oil is generally more expensive than Argan oil, but both products are well worth the cost.

Olive oil: is the fat obtained from an olive! The olives are pressed and the oils are then drained.

This oil is jam-packed with anti-aging antioxidants and is amazing when it comes to moisture. I consider this to be a staple product!

You can use Olive oil in various ways:

  • Hair: As a hot oil treatment or as a leave in (Only use a bit!)
  • Skin: Olive oil is amazing for healing dry skin. If you have issues with dry skin (especially eczema) this diverse little oil will be your best friend. It is best used when skin is damp.
  • Nails: CRACKED CUTICLES BE GONE! At night, add a bit of olive oil to your finger tips and massage gently.

Product: You can find olive just about anywhere! Just make sure it is Extra Virgin Olive OilThe average price is around $3.00- $6.00 USD for a decent size bottle.

Monoi Oil: This oil is ONLY produced in Tahiti (not the product that contains it, but the oil itself). This oil has a bit of fragrance to it because it is made by soaking the petals of the Tahitian gardenia in coconut oil (soaked for about a month).

_5173184

Product: ‘Monoi de Tahiti’ Body Glow II by NARS & this product can be purchased at Sephora for $59.00 USD.

Uses for Monoi Oil:

  • Can be used as a bath oil. This helps make skin nice and supple.
  • You can mix this oil with your lotion. It helps skin retain moisture & adds a nice scent.
  • My personal favorite is that you can add this oil to conditioner for added nourishment and shine.

BONUS: This oil is extremely lightweight!

Disclaimer: If you are allergic to Gardenias..please DO NOT USE this oil. Regular old coconut oil will do just fine!

Try these oils! Experiment, and see what works best for you!
